Things are still going great around here! Yesterday, we decided to go like the locals and rented a golf car to go around the island!! We really had great fun driving at 30 km/hour on the road, forced to slow down even more every 200 meters or so by huge road humps!!! Was a great feeling though to feel the wind in our hair under this warm weather!
We went to a turtle farm, where we saw loads of different sea turtles. These animals are very peculiar!
We then went through the whole island (6 kms long) and arrived to the south end where they indicated a Maya ruin. We were very excited to see our first Maya temple but were quite disappointed when we arrived there. Anyway, we then turned around and were face to face with iguanas!!!! Loads of them, and as impressive as turtles, believe me!
We also found a great bar on the beach and were surprised by the amount of people there, as there were very few cars parked at the entrance. We then realized that in fact, people were getting there by boat!! Easy life for these people!
We are still enjoying the food a lot! Now I understand Barbara telling me that she did not want to go to the Mexican restaurant in Cork as this is not Mexican food. She is sooooo right!!!
This morning we got up early and were at the beach at 8.30, completely on our own! What a feeling! The white sand, the clear water, no noise but the sound of the waves coming to the beach, just the 2 of us in the water… Heaven!!
After 2 hours, we quickly had to leave the beach as a tropical storm was coming and it started raining. The rain here is quite thick and a few drops convinced us to go as quickly as possible!
It did not last very long though and the clouds left the island to go back to the continent.
As you can see, easy life! And we´ll keep you posted!!! We are leaving Isla Mujeres tomorrow to head to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel!
Take care,
Joan et Elise
